We will traveling to India partly as tourists but primarily as spiritual pilgrims. As such, we will avoid the most chaotic and touristy places. I have hand-selected all properties, guides and locations to allow for the most enjoyable, safe, uniquely cultural, spiritually expansive, and unforgettable experiences in northern India as friends and followers of Christ.
Here is a brief overview of our itinerary.
April 6-19, 2020
Arrive in Delhi. After a good sleep and great meal, we will have a brief orientation and tour of New Delhi including a rickshaw ride and some spiritually important sights.
Next is Rishikesh, known as “the yoga capital of the world.” Here you can relax and take in a yoga class if you choose and sightsee. In the evening, we will stroll along the holy Ganges River and observe the nightly fire ritual of Ganga Aarti. There are optional adventure opportunities such as jungle hikes, white water rafting, rock climbing, massage or even a Bollywood movie night. In Rishikesh we will have an opportunity learn about Hinduism.
Next is a few days inAnandpur Sahib where we will be the private guests at Yogi’s Bhajan’s house/colony called Dashmesh Sadan. This is a Kundalini Yoga haven where we will be fed handsomely and able to rest and relax on the beautiful grounds. Anandpur Sahib is an important place in Sikh History and in addition to tours, we have engaged a private guide to come and teach us about Sikh History, the 10 Gurus, and answer all our questions. At Dashmesh Sadan we will also have a half-day yoga and meditation course taught by Nam Joti Kaur titled: Christ’s India: Why and How We Can Follow Him. This may also include a preview or unveil of Nam Joti’s forthcoming book.
Next is Amritsar, located in an area known as India’s breadbasket. Armritsar is the spiritual capital of the Sikhs and gained its name, meaning ‘Holy Pool of Nectar’, from the body of water around the Golden Temple.
We have timed our arrival the day before Vaisakhi, the biggest Sikh holy day of the year. We will visit the Golden Temple and may enjoy this celebration with parades, citywide chanting, bhangra dancing and who knows what else. While in Amritsar we also have the option of touring Miri Piri Academy, the private boarding school founded by Yogi Bhajan.
Next is Dharamsala, in the foothills of the Himalayas, famous as the home of the exiled Dalai Lama, this small market town is the center of the Tibetan world in India. 10 km uphill, Upper Dharamsala is surrounded by dense forest. This beautiful hill station attracts pilgrims and travelers seeking spiritual enlightenment and a possible encounter with this holy man. This area is described as heaven on earth for nature lovers. Dharmsala is the perfect place to learn about Buddhism.
After our days in Dharamshala we will return to Delhi via several spectacular stops including Shimla and the world heritage listed "Toy Train" on our route back.
Return to Delhi for return flights.
*Some details may be subject to change. +At the end of our journey, we may donate unwanted clothing, medicines and bandages which will be distributed to a local organization which provides help to remote villages.
Accommodations All accommodations are delux, and sometimes luxury, depending on the location. I have hand selected every property for its charm, sustainability, scenery and positive reviews.
